Education

Ben West is committed to fostering the next generation of musical theatre artists though lectures and workshops built upon our principal of “History in Practice.” Offering a practical, functional, active application of musical theatre history, his programs are uniquely designed to expand the vocabulary and skill set of young artists through direct engagement in the exploration of the form’s history.

In the words of lyricist-composer Harold Rome, “Whether you want to be original, or whether you want to be conventional, you still have to know what has been done, in order to be either.”

West has lectured and spoken at several institutions including the Library of Congress, Yale University, The New York Public Library, University of Michigan, and Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he is an Assistant Professor. He has also presented at the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
