Building the American musical’s future on the foundation of the past.

UnsungMusicalsCo. (UMC) is committed to fostering the next generation of musical theatre artists though lectures and workshops built upon our principal of “History in Practice.” Offering a practical, functional, active application of musical theatre history, UMC’s programs are uniquely designed to expand the vocabulary and skillset of young artists through direct engagement in the exploration of the form’s history.

In the words of lyricist-composer Harold Rome, “Whether you want to be original, or whether you want to be conventional, you still have to know what has been done, in order to be either.”

UMC founder Ben West’s speaking engagements include panels and lectures at the Library of Congress, U.S. Copyright Office, The New York Public Library, and Yale University, where he will also curate an exhibition for the Irving S. Gilmore Music Library in fall 2019.
